Back to the running _again_

 

My Race For Life is on Sunday.  All donations gratefully received etc. 

 

I will not be running the whole way round as I had planned which is quite annoying.  Between twisting my ankle and going to New York with Mum I've missed almost a months training.  Never mind.  I've signed up for another 5k in September so that should keep me motivated after Sundays come and gone.

 

Did go for a run last night.  I can do 6 minute chunks with 4 minute walks without too much bother so I expect to be doing 10 minute runs on Friday.  Should leave me running round most of the RFL with only a few breaks.

Ruby Foos

I'm just going to be quite lazy for a couple of days and just put up links to things we saw in NYC. Here's the restaurant we went to on our first night in NYC, Ruby Foos.

Shoes

Campers that are even too bizzare for me. And you only seem to get one lace which seems unfair as you are trying to work out to wear three shoes.

Monsoon

So the plan so far is to take the various parents and the Burns to The Monsoon. Yummy.

What to wear

See if all our clothes were made of this stuff we would never have to worry about things matching.

Oh dear, looks like our local bobbies aren't doing too well in the performance tables. Of course as we get broken into every time we go on holiday we could have guessed this.

Cambridge in the news. And they call Mill Rd rough. Sounds like Castle Hill is the best place to go for a barney.

Dilemma

Well the running dilemma was solved by just simply going to the pub with some people from work for one quick drink. Many quick drinks later and there was no running but plenty of fried food and a big cup of coffee for the train.  Ah, healthy.

 

No running today either.  Going for my usual swimming lesson instead.  Might give the diving a miss this week until I'm really sure my ankle is up for it.  Need to start doing the recommended ankle flexibility exercises.

6 Minutes

So, the day before yesterday I started running again.  I really didn't want to revert to running even less than I was when I twisted my ankle so I decided to run for 6 minutes (four times) with unlimited walking inbetween.  The first two runs were grand.   Ran, walked, watched the barges and the rowers out on the river.  The second two were considerably harder.  When the countdown alarm went off at the end of the last run I was very relieved.  And beetroot faced.  Really beetroot faced.  Of course it has also been very, very warm here.  But I fear that wasn't really the reason.

 

But none the less the runs were completed in reasonable form and I was very happy.

 

Two days later, my thighs are still sore and I am meant to run this evening.  So here's the dilemma.  How much running should I do and how much walking?  According to the plan I should run 6 mins and walk 2 mins.  Shall I just try this anyway and see how it goes?  I could always increase the walk times to 4 mins if its proving too difficult.  And at least it is much cooler today.

A busy weekend this weekend gone but fun. And not the least fun of it was getting these sandals bought for me. Thanks Ian :-)

Diving

Last night I went to my first swimming class since I hurt my ankle. My ankle was still a teeny tiny bit sore but I was just bored of waiting. So I went to the edge of the pool and my teacher asked me to dive in. I did the best dive I have ever done. No slap of water against flat body part, no stinging red flesh.

But my ankle! Theres something about going up on your tiptoes and pushing off that doesn't do twisted ankles one bit of good. Pain! Pain! Don't like it.

On the plus side when I found my self in the middle of the deep end with the pain I was calm and fit enough to just casually stroke to the side of the pool and not drown.

The rest of the lesson was grand. But oh swimming without kicking your legs for half an hour really takes it out of you. But think how wonderful my shoulders will be!

Van Helsing

So we went to see that Van Helsing at the cinema at the weekend. Don't do this. It was very, very bad. Not Reign of Fire bad (but what is) but definitely League of Extraordinary Gentlemen bad.

And we gave it a chance, well we went to the pub first in the hope that a couple of drinks would make us more forgiving. It didnt help.
