Look carefully at the photographs I made (made rather than taken - I didn't use a camera) this week. What's missing? That's right Alex isn't in any of them! What has the world come to!

Alex went to her first birthday party today. Its a hectic social whirl being a baby. She had a great time staring solemnly at all the grown ups and held her own in the game of snatch the toy from the other baby. She particularly loved the balloons and the birthday cake!

Today Alex is conducting experiments.

1) What happens if I hold the pink shoe while vigorously shaking the red rattle.

2) How hard do I have to pull to remove the baby proofing on the corner of Mummy's desk?

3) If I keep on eating will Mummy keep feeding me until I explode?

Crawling

This morning - honest to god crawling - across the slippy wooden floors!

And to delight us even further Alex has found the drinks cabinet. Hurrah. Time to train her to make us gin and tonics. Or possibly time to get those drawer locks. One or the other.

New Year's Day Lunch

Stuck

I was in the kitchen making breakfast when I heard Alex sounding a bit miffed but not upset. Somehow she had managed to get underneath one of the dining chairs. There was just enough space for her to sit up and no more.

And here is Alex in her Christmas outfit. I thought it would be tricky for her to outgrow a cape but her shoulders proved me wrong!

Alex got a new dressing gown for Christmas to keep her snug after her bath.

Seven months

Alex is seven months old now. I took her to the baby clinic to get her weighed this afternoon. She now weighs nearly 18 pounds and 9 ounces which is pretty much as expected. Hurrah!

They did say that she should be able to sleep through the night by now and advised me to make sure she was awake when we put her down in her cot for the night. That way she will learn how to put herself to sleep so that when she wakes in the middle of the night she can nod off again without needing help. So this evening I found myself bizarrely trying to get her to wake up after her feed. Brushing her teeth (all two of them) did the job. Then there was a few minutes crying, a lot of twisting round in the cot and finally she slept. She is now sleeping, with her head to one side (thankfully, I hate the face down sleeping position!) facing outwards. She usually faces the other way so this is a rare chance to see her face as she sleeps. Very, very cute. Of course :-)

She has started to try to cruise round the furniture. Not entirely successfully so far which has lead to a few bumps but nothing too dramatic thankfully.
