Food

Food, food, food. It has all been about food here recently.

Alex is showing signs of beginning to be a bit more open to new food. Today I served up salmon for dinner and without being prompted she picked it up and took a big bite. She didn't actually eat it. That would have been too exciting. But even just taking a bite of something new is good news and to do so without prompting was even better news.

I sit next to Stephanie's high chair at meals and put the food I want her to eat on my plate. It was obvious very quickly that although she would eat just about anything what she really, really wanted to eat was my food. She has moved on. Now she hauls herself bolt upright using the edge of the high chair tray to see over to what Alex is eating. Now it doesn't matter what I'm eating. All she wants is Alex's dinner. Which should be fine except that tonight Alex was eating spaghetti. Stephanie can pick up and eat food herself but so far all she has attempted is baton and rice cake shaped food. Spaghetti was far beyond her motor skills. She was furious and refused to eat anything else while she was concentrating on the spaghetti.

Also I learned that it best to keep the baby fully dressed for mealtimes. Oh yes it is a bit unpleasant when the babygro is smeared from top to toe in porridge. But is so much easier to take a messy babygro off and throw it in the wash than it is to try to get a squirming porridgey baby clean.
