I went swimming last night. Lots of fun. Honest.

I managed to do 12 lengths. That's double the lengths I could do when I started. So that's all to the good. Four of those I did with a float which sounds like they should be easy but really just means that your legs have to do all the work.

My breast stroke seems to be coming along ok. I can usually go quite a long way before my legs get confused and the stroke disintegrates. Its much better than it was, now I feel confident enough to try the other strokes knowing that if it all becomes too much of a faff I can revert to the breast stroke and not make an utter fool of myself.

The front crawl continues to elude me. Trying to keep my legs straight while kicking doesn't come naturally to me. And I could really feel the muscles in my thighs begin to hurt. But that's just exercise for you. The breathing is a bit of a struggle as well. I just put my head down and kind of forget to breath until it becomes quite urgent. And getting a breath by turning my head to the side isn't working very well at the moment. I must ask my teacher on Thursday how this is meant to work.

The back stroke is very relaxing. All those breathing problems simplified by facing upwards instead of downwards. I was even beginning to get the hang of having my palm facing outwards when it goes into the water.

All in all it was pretty good. I'm still all enthusiastic about it which is good.
